This converted schoolhouse on the Leelanau Peninsula has become one of my favorite art stops north of Traverse City. The Old Art Building houses multiple artist studios where you can watch creators at work - from painters and sculptors to jewelry makers and fiber artists. The building itself tells a story, with original hardwood floors and tall windows that flood the studios with natural light. You'll find everything from contemporary paintings inspired by Lake Michigan's shoreline to handcrafted pottery and unique textiles. It's the kind of place where you can chat with artists about their process and maybe walk away with something truly special.
