The walkable heart of TC
Downtown Traverse City
Centered on Front Street, this is where you'll find most of the restaurants, bars, and shops. Easy to walk, harder to park in summer. The Open Space park on the bay is the gathering spot.

Wine, cherries, and the 45th parallel
Old Mission Peninsula
The narrow peninsula splitting Grand Traverse Bay. Home to 9 wineries on the wine trail, cherry orchards everywhere, and the Old Mission Lighthouse at the tip. One road in, one road out — M-37.

The little finger of Michigan
Leelanau Peninsula
West of TC, this is wine country plus gateway to Sleeping Bear Dunes. Small towns like Suttons Bay, Leland (Fishtown), Glen Arbor, and Empire each have their own personality. More spread out than Old Mission — you'll want a car.

|---|---|---|---|
| Best for | First trip, Walkable dining, Nightlife | Wine trail, Scenic drives, Sunset stops | Day trips, Small towns, Sleeping Bear |
| Trip rhythm | Park once, walk often | One road, planned stops | Choose a loop, leave time |
| Start with | Front Street shopping corridor, Clinch Park + Open Space | Old Mission Lighthouse, Old Mission Peninsula Wine Trail | Fishtown in Leland, Sleeping Bear Dunes gateway towns |
| Parking note | Parking decks and side streets off Front are usually easier than hunting directly on Front Street. | Most winery lots are straightforward, but they fill fast on Saturdays. | Downtown Suttons Bay and Leland parking fills quickly in peak afternoon windows. |
