What started as a retired farmer's dream to share his beloved woodlands has become one of Traverse City's most treasured family hiking destinations. Hickory Meadows winds through 85 acres of mixed hardwood forest, where towering hickory trees create a natural cathedral overhead. The well-maintained trail system was hand-carved by local volunteers who wanted to preserve this slice of Northern Michigan wilderness. Kids love spotting chipmunks and woodpeckers along the gentle paths, while leashed dogs eagerly explore every scent. The main loop takes about 45 minutes at a leisurely pace, perfect for multi-generational adventures.
